Dr. Hemani has facilitated workshops for Alberta Ecotrust and the Canadian Poverty Institute, with upcoming courses and workshops at the Werklund Centre and the Alexandra Writers Centre Society (AWCS).
At Deep Listening Path, I offer courses, workshops, and ongoing circles that invite people to slow down, tend to burnout, and practice collective care. Each offering is grounded in deep listening, embodiment, and a commitment to justice.
“Shumaila’s message addresses the critical and often misunderstood issue of burnout with empathy and insight. Her points about the uniqueness of each individual’s experience with burnout and the systematic nature of its causes are particularly poignant.”
— Dr. Alister Martin, CEO, A Healthier Democracy; former Physician, Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government
Courses

Our courses offer a slower, more spacious way to learn. Through a blend of reflection, storytelling, deep listening, embodiment, and neuroplasticity, we explore burnout, care, and trauma in ways to be more gentle with ourselves and nurture collective care.
“Shumaila is an excellent facilitator. She guides participants to tap into new ways of experiencing their surroundings through sound and listening, helping them come away with new perspectives.”
— Stefanie Drozda, Alberta Ecotrust
Workshops

Workshops are immersive, facilitated sessions for teams, organizations, and communities. Together we surface the roots of burnout, build shared language, and practice ways of being that honour limits and possibility.
“I was amazed at the series of workshops by Shumaila Hemani. In my 22 years of experience in the climate field, I have never had the opportunity to combine my background in film/photography/art with climate change. The work Shumaila is doing is incredibly innovative, and I think it touched a deep yearning among the participants to seek equity and justice in this world in which we are immersed.”
— Helen Corbett, CEO, All One Sky International
Deep Listening Circles

With sound-based study and practice that draw on the deep listening work of Pauline Oliveros and Hildegard Westerkamp. Together we cultivate critical listening, heightened sonic awareness, and reflective discussion—approaching listening as a rigorous, creative, and politically engaged practice to nurture systems thinking and systemic change.

“Learning from Shumaila has been an enriching experience for me. Her vast knowledge and adeptness at incorporating diverse learning methods into each class make each session truly engaging. I particularly enjoy the meditations intertwined with the essence of raag, fostering a deeper connection to the music. Shumaila’s approach to exploring various raags and seamlessly guiding through the practice has expanded my understanding and appreciation of this art form. Shumaila’s dedication to her students’ progress is evident in every aspect of her teaching, making her an exceptional mentor in the world of music.”
