Listening through the global crisis

The Deep Listening Path invites people and communities into shared listening and arts-based practice to nurture wellbeing, offering reflective spaces, interwoven with collaborative care and community healing for peace, systemic justice, and collective healing.

A weathered wooden listening bowl carved from dark walnut, its smooth interior catching the faint reflection of an overcast sky, rests on a moss-covered stone beside a still forest pond. Fallen leaves in muted amber and deep green float near the water’s edge, their details rendered in crisp photographic realism. Soft, diffused natural light filters through tall pines, casting gentle, dappled shadows and a subtle mist in the distance. Shot at eye level with a shallow depth of field, the bowl is in sharp focus while the forest blurs into a calm, velvety background. The mood is serene and contemplative, suggesting deep listening to the more-than-human world, with a sophisticated, minimalist composition emphasizing quiet attention and ecological care.

Deep Listening in Times of Precarity

Political upheavals, including social and economic crises, undermine our capacity to listen—to ourselves, to one another, and to the world.

Instead of forcing people to listen, what is necessary in times of precarity is to allow listening to arrive.

At The Deep Listening Path, we offer gatherings and practices that help restore the nervous system and keep our humanity alive in difficult times.

Writing in the Wound

Drawing on 17 years of immigration precarity in Canada, t Dr. Shumaila Hemani reflects on creativity, burnout, and healing through music and deep listening in this memoir. Tracing her journey through trauma, migration, and artistic practice, the book explores how sound and creative expression can serve as pathways to resilience and renewal. Selected as Alberta’s 2025 Favorite Reads, the memoir invites readers to listen to the body as it keeps the score.

A low circular arrangement of small clay bowls filled with water, each containing a single floating leaf in various stages of decay, forms a gentle mandala on a rough linen cloth spread over an earthen floor. Around the cloth, there are scattered charcoal sketches of rivers, roots, and cloud formations, slightly curled at the corners. Soft, indirect daylight enters from an unseen side window, illuminating the subtle textures of the clay, linen, and paper while leaving the background in gentle shadow. Shot from a bird’s eye view in crisp photographic realism, the design feels like a quiet ritual for collective grief and climate care. The mood is intimate and reverent, emphasizing cycles of change, attentive noticing, and the healing power of simple, handmade arts practices.
