Calm, earthy, reflective scene for The Deep Listening Path brand: a shallow ceramic bowl of water on a linen cloth with a few river stones and a single eucalyptus branch, soft side light, muted greens and browns, minimal, contemplative, photographic realism, portrait orientation, plenty of negative space.

Healing Begins in the act of Listening

What happens when our scars begin to speak?
Listening to our wounds opens doorways to healing the scars left by structures that defer belonging.

Mission & Values

The Deep Listening Path centers care, rest, and creative resilience as a response to ecological and social crises, inviting collaboration, listening, and mutual support across communities.

Calm, earthy, reflective scene for The Deep Listening Path brand: a hand-drawn map of rivers and roots on textured recycled paper, with a simple wooden pencil, a sprig of dried grasses, and a linen cloth beneath, warm neutral light, muted greens and ochres, overhead view, square format, contemplative and minimal, photographic realism.

Dr. Hemani has facilitated workshops for Alberta Ecotrust and the Canadian Poverty Institute, with upcoming courses and workshops at the Werklund Centre and the Alexandra Writers Centre Society.

“Talking to Dr. Shumaila about imposter syndrome helped me gain a new understanding of how to relate to my fears. I realized that challenging ourselves puts us in uncomfortable zones, and that process of self-doubting is significant for growth. Her insights were incredibly valuable. It was a pleasure to meet her; she was a very kind mentor and used a gentle approach to help me overcome my fears.”

“I was overwhelmed with the understanding shown by Shumaila (in the Advocacy Burnout to Breakthrough call) and really had a strong sense that she appreciated the struggles I have and recognised similar obstacles and problems to me. Her empathy and ability to connect with me and recognise how I approached my work was extremely valuable and comforting.”

“Setting intentions has been instrumental in boosting my self-esteem. Dr. Hemani’s insights and strategies, especially considering neurodiversity, have helped me better manage daily obstacles. Additionally, the documents and schedule she provided were very helpful in understanding the overall approach.”

I felt understood and valued during the coaching session and came away with renewed hope and optimism that not only can I continue my advocacy work in a more compassionate way to myself, but also that those I work with/for will be better supported too. A most productive Advocacy Burnout to Breakthrough call with clear advice and methods provided for future work together. I am indeed most grateful for the time spent.”
